Saekarat Environmental Research Station
The Saekarat Environmental Research Station is located just south of the city of Nakhon Ratchasima in Isan, northeast of Bangkok and just west of Khao Yai National Park. It sits within the Saekarat Biosphere Reserve (Thailand’s first), an 82,315-hectare protected area and important research and environmental education site, especially snake research (particularly on King Cobras).
Over 380 floral species, 486 vertebrate animals and 533 invertebrates have been recorded within the Biosphere, some of which are threatened or near extinction. The reserve is comprised primarily of dry evergreen forests, mixed deciduous forests, dry dipterocarp forests, some bamboo patches and reforested areas.
There are simple but comfortable accommodations at the station for around 60 people and it is advisable to go on a weekend, as the station hosts a lot of school field trips during the week.
