Canandé Reserve
Located in the northwestern Esmeraldas province, Canandé is a 14,000-acre reserve sitting at 300 masl and one of the best places in Ecuador to explore humid Chocó tropical forest. Of the 62 species of birds endemic to the Chocó region, 37 are found at Canandé.
The reserve has also placed camera traps throughout to monitor Puma, Jaguar, Ocelot and Margay Cats, as well as peccaries and Red Deer.

Do you have the right gear for Canandé?
Canandé is right in the heart of the Ecuadorian Chocó, giving visitors a chance to observe not only the many endemic bird species but the immense diversity of the ecoregion’s herpetofauna (one of the most diverse in the world), including several rare and range-restricted dart frogs.
Accommodations at Canandé are basic.
